Liverpool had a superstar playmaker in the form of Philippe Coutinho, who opted to move to Barcelona in the winter transfer window of 2018.
The Brazilian international was a major hit in the Premier League and the move to Spain has turned out to be a nightmare for him. Reports suggest that Barca want to offload their record signing in the January transfer window in order to sign a striker.
It must be remembered that the La Liga club lured Sergio Aguero in the summer but reports indicate that the Argentine goal-scorer is retiring due to heart problems (Marca).
In such a scenario, according to Sport, the Catalan giants are desperately looking to add a center forward next month and they have asked Man Utd for the likes of Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani. In return, they have offered Coutinho to the Red Devils.
The famous Spanish source have claimed that the response from the Old Trafford outfit is not positive. They do not want a swap deal and would prefer to receive cash from sales.
Last season, Coutinho was mainly on the treatment table and as far as the current campaign is concerned, he has mostly warmed the bench. So far, the 29-year-old has made 13 appearances but started just 4 games in all competitions.
The £240,000-a-week playmaker (The Mirror) directly contributed in 20 goals in his last half season with Liverpool. He needs to play regular first team football to earn a place in the Brazil squad for the World Cup.
Naturally, he is a central attacking midfielder and Man Utd already have two CAMs in the form of Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek. So, there is no need to sign Philippe Coutinho. What do you think?
