Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone. The search for Manchester United’s new permanent manager is presumably well underway.
The club tried to give the Baby Faced Assassin as much time as possible, but a 4-1 loss to Watford was always going to be the final nail in the coffin.
Finding a new permanent replacement in the middle of a season is never easy. Thus, Michael Carrick will take charge on an interim basis.
Well, one man who would be interested in the Old Trafford hot-seat is Mauricio Pochettino. The story comes from the Daily Mail on Sunday.
Apparently, the 49-year-old is ‘ready’ to answer Manchester United’s call if they want him to replace Solskjaer.
They say that Pochettino would be keen on becoming United manager immediately, as he’s unhappy in the French capital, where he’s currently managing Paris Saint-Germain…
The former Spurs boss is currently living in a hotel while his family remain settled in London. On top of that, he’s frustrated at managing big egos like Lionel Messi and Neymar. My initial thought is good luck with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba, but that’s a story for another day.
Poch was heavily linked with the United job when Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties but no deal was reached at that time. You always felt like the Argentine was a good fit for the Red Devils, though. That hasn’t changed.
Funnily enough, Pochettino will be in Manchester this week as his PSG side take on Manchester City in the Champions League tomorrow night. It’ll be interesting to see if any meetings take place.
One thing I will say is that if Pochettino is keen on the job, United will do well to find someone better at the current time. He’d also be inheriting a top-class squad here at the Theatre of Dreams.
