‘Main candidate’: Pundit thinks Manchester United will try to appoint 50-year-old manager if Erik ten Hag gets sacked

Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United’s manager is uncertain.

After a lackluster season this year, the Red Devils will not play in the Champions League the following year.

Despite having played one fewer game than Tottenham, Manchester United is presently sixth in the Premier League standings, six points behind the North London team.

Ten Hag has had a great deal of criticism in recent months, and at the end of this season, there’s a good likelihood that he will be fired.

If that occurs, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will need to find a top-tier successor to enable Manchester United return to its previous level.

In the event that Ten Hag is fired, Jan Age Fjortoft has now disclosed who he believes may be hired.

One “main candidate” to lead Manchester United is Thomas Tuchel.
Over the past several months, Manchester United has been associated with several possible managers.

Given that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now in charge at Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag’s future is far from assured, it wouldn’t be shocking if United took a different turn.

Gary Neville doesn’t want any of the candidates that have been named as potential summer candidates for the Manchester United position, including Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate, and Gary O’Neil.

In recent weeks, a few well-known names have also been brought up.

Among them is Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Bayern Munich, who will be departing the Allianz Arena at the end of the current campaign.

On ESPN FC last night, Jan Age Fjortoft was asked if he believed Tuchel will join Manchester United this summer.

The commentator mocked Ten Hag’s remarks on United’s style of play after going so far as to label the German, who just won the Champions League with Chelsea, the “main candidate.”

“Tuchel, if Ten Hag managed to leave the most entertaining team in England, I would say that I think he would be the main candidate,” he remarked.

Erik ten Hag’s and Thomas Tuchel’s comparative numbers following underwhelming seasons for both players. Both players will readily acknowledge that their seasons haven’t been fantastic.

This season, the 50-year-old’s Bayern Munich team did not win the Bundesliga title for the first time in more than ten years.

Manchester United has also had an awful season. If they don’t get better performances in the upcoming weeks, they can fall out of the top six.

Who, of Ten Hag and Tuchel, has had the worst season? A lot of you may already know the answer.
