According to the most recent news out of Portugal, Manchester United is about to sign Manuel Ugarte.

“Ugarte is closer to Old Trafford,” reads the headline of an article published in the Record.

The former Sporting CP midfielder is “on the verge of joining Manchester United,” according to the Lisbon-based media publication.

The fact that Ugarte was not selected for Paris Saint-Germain’s league opener last night is “the missing sign,” indicating that the Uruguayan’s tenure at the Parc des Princes is officially over.

The South American was signed by the French champions last year for 60 million euros from the Lions; however, Joao Neves from Benfica has since been brought in to take his place.

The agreement between Man Utd and PSG is allegedly the only thing preventing Ugarte from joining the team, but the transaction is reportedly “closer” to being finalized now.

Negotiations are being handled by Jorge Mendes, and according to HITC, the super agent is optimistic that an agreement will be reached between both sides to bring his client to the Premier League team.

Ugarte led Uruguay to third place in the competition and had an outstanding Copa America campaign.

But Luis Enrique did not think much of him at PSG. In the previous season, he only managed to start 21 league games and only made 16 appearances for the entire 90 minutes.

Man Utd is looking for a long-term replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford, and if media claims are to be believed, Manuel Ugarte is the best candidate.
