Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Manchester United and Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain are nearing an agreement to sign Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils have had a busy summer as head coach Erik ten Hag has significantly expanded his team for the 2024–2025 campaign. According to recent rumors, they have added four new players to the club so far, and a fifth is anticipated soon.
However, the club made a number of departures in an effort to restock the roster. This transfer window, Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Raphael Varane are just a few of the players that have left Old Trafford.

Manuel Ugarte, a midfielder for PSG, warming up
A few weeks ago, it seemed as though United’s chances of acquiring Ugarte were fading; however, today, they are getting close to a contract to bring in the 23-year-old midfield player. That’s according to Romano, who claims that if Scott McTominay’s transfer to Napoli goes through, a permanent agreement might now be achievable.
According to the journalist, Ugarte is solely interested in joining the Red Devils this summer and is “ready to travel” to Manchester in front of a possible transfer. The Uruguayan international may soon sign for the Premier League team, having only joined PSG in the summer of 2023.
Ugarte started his youth career with CA Fenix in his native country, where he played in slightly under 60 senior games. After relocating to Portugal in 2021, he played for Sporting CP and Famalicao. He signed a long-term contract with PSG 12 months ago, and it runs until 2028.

McTominay Gets Nearer to Leaving Old Trafford
An international from Scotland will join Napoli

It appears that a deal to sell midfielder McTominay to Serie A team Napoli is what motivates United to try to sign Ugarte permanently rather than just on a loan. The two clubs have reached a consensus about the Scotland international, according to a report published by The Athletic on Sunday.
The report continues by saying that the agreement depends on everyone accepting the terms of the player, but United has already lined up Ugarte as a replacement. The Red Devils are reportedly going to get a fee of about €30 million, along with a cut of any sales that happen in the future.
Having come through United’s youth, McTominay has over 250 senior matches under his belt. In December of last year, he took on the captaincy role for the first time and has since scored 29 goals.
The midfield player’s contract at Old Trafford is coming to an end, although he has one more year left on it. Although Fulham’s assessment of McTominay was far lower than United’s asking price, the club was connected to the midfielder at several occasions this summer.
