Manchester United’s midfield predicament is particularly concerning since they are finding it difficult to put together a winning lineup.
In the midfield, neither Casemiro nor the recent addition Manuel Ugarte have truly established themselves.
Being a specialized position, defensive midfield is critical to the team’s performance. As is the case with Ten Hag’s sides, Manchester United finds it difficult to move the ball forward when its midfield isn’t strong.
As to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Man United reportedly made a £46 million summer offer to recruit Ederson from Atalanta. But that June offer never materialized, and the Red Devils lost out on signing him.
One of the top defensive midfielders in Serie A right now is Ederson. He can play as a single #6 or as part of a double pivot and is a superb play-breaker. With Atalanta, he won the Europa League the previous campaign.
The Brazilian was signed by Atalanta for about €23 million, but according to the report, the sum has since tripled to £57.8 million. Newcastle United attempted to ascertain his price as well. Considering that they have Bruno Guimaraes, one wonders where they would play him.
Ederson would be a valuable addition to the team if he were to join Manchester United. It makes sense because Casemiro is practically certain to leave the team after the current campaign, which would prevent defensive midfielders from being overbooked.
The club’s biggest issue right now is the unpredictability surrounding the managerial situation. Until that is resolved, players would be hesitant to join the team, and it is unclear how the management will handle this.
All signs lead to Ederson landing a lucrative move to Europe. Let’s wait and see if Manchester United ends up being the destination.
