Man United ‘add highly-rated 39-year-old to shortlist’ of Erik ten Hag replacements

Manchester United is said to think highly of Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim, 39, and have identified the 39-year-old as a possible successor to Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils’ current manager.

Ten Hag’s position is thought to be secure for Man United’s match against Brentford next weekend, despite the fact that they have only managed to accumulate eight points from their opening seven Premier League games—the lowest start to a season ever for the team.

It is very possible that the Dutchman will be fired before the end of the season, with Thomas Tuchel being the front-runner to take over, if he is unable to turn the season around in the upcoming weeks.

After leaving Bayern Munich earlier this year, Tuchel is available right now. Graham Potter and current Red Devils assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy are also rumored to be in the running.

Nonetheless, Amorim is also on the shortlist, according to GIVEMESPORT. The Portuguese player is recognized as one of the top young tacticians in world football.

Amorim is seen by Man United as a possible Ten Hag substitute.

Earlier this year, Amorim was connected to West Ham United and Liverpool, but he chose to stay at Sporting, where he is under contract through the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season.

The Portuguese manager oversaw 234 games while at Braga before joining Sporting in 2020. In that time, he recorded 167 victories, 34 draws, and 33 losses.

Sporting is presently leading the division after winning 24 of their first eight games this season under Amorim’s direction. He has guided the team to two Primeira Liga victories.

The head coach was recently praised by Man United head coach Bruno Fernandes for his efforts in Lisbon, and it is said that he sees himself in England soon.

Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has praised Amorim highly.

“Since Amorim took over at Sporting, they have become one of the teams playing the best football.” While representing Portugal abroad, Fernandes informed reporters.

“Whether he can replicate that in England, Spain, or anywhere else remains to be seen, but I am confident that his qualities are evident to everyone.”

Ten Hag will captain Man United against Brentford on October 19. The Red Devils have a hectic end to the month with games against Fenerbahce, West Ham United, and Leicester City.

November’s schedule includes a Premier League home game against Chelsea before the squad plays PAOK and Leicester before the international break. If performances and results do not significantly improve, Ten Hag’s future may once more be discussed.
