Ruthless from Ratcliffe: Man Utd ready to accept £40m+ loss on £200k-p/w star alongside Maguire

In addition to Harry Maguire, Manchester United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are now prepared to take a loss of more than £40 million on a different Red Devils player.

Ratcliffe and INEOS cancel Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United contract.

After Ratcliffe became a new co-owner, Old Trafford saw a lot of changes both on and off the field. In the end, the team decided to retain manager Erik ten Hag for the summer.

The Red Devils supported Ten Hag in the transfer window by adding a number of new players, and there have been discussions about maybe renovating Old Trafford. Ratcliffe has also implemented a number of cost-cutting initiatives. According to reports from the summer, Man Utd planned to eliminate 250 positions; legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson has now been informed of these plans.

Following his resignation as manager in 2013, the iconic manager has been serving as a multi-million pound ambassador for Manchester United. However, it was disclosed this week that INEOS had terminated Ferguson’s contract with Man Utd.

Ratcliffe reportedly informed Ferguson in person that Man Utd was “no longer in a position to continue paying him beyond this season” when they made the decision. The decision was accepted by the Scot, who continues to serve as a non-executive director for the Red Devils. Several player exits may also occur soon.

According to recent reports, Man Utd are prepared to sell Maguire during the January transfer window and may accept an offer as low as £10 million after having to reimburse Leicester City £80 million for the player in 2019. And now, in 2025, another Red Devils player might be leaving Old Trafford.

Man Utd prepared to take Antony’s £40 million offer

The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United is prepared to let go of winger Antony during the January transfer window. The Brazilian, who spent £86 million joining from Ajax in 2022, may go on loan for the second half of the season, according to the report. Additionally, “the club would listen to offers of around £40 million for the 24-year-old,” who is currently Amad Diallo’s fourth choice after Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford at wide position, is added.

Anthony Anthony, who earns a staggering £200,000 per week at Old Trafford, has recently been connected to both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

In his 86 Manchester United appearances, he has scored 12 goals. In 2024–2025, he has only appeared in four games and played 139 minutes. Ten Hag praised the choice to let the winger take the penalty. Antony’s only goal of the season came from the penalty spot against Barnsley.

Similar to the penalty, Rashy offers Antony the pen when he needs some confidence. This is beneficial for the team because it shows that the members are working together. This team’s cohesiveness seems to me. Due to his need to compete for his spot and the players’ own decision to support and boost his confidence, Antony faces some challenges. They wish to demonstrate your inclusion in this. Together, we are. We need everyone because the season is long.”

But, based on current events, it appears that his time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end. If their £40 million asking price is met, the club may suffer a £46 million loss.
