Although this campaign has thus far been largely underwhelming for the Norwegian manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, one star who has continued to stand out has been the Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea.
In spite of receiving criticism throughout the last few seasons, the player has been in great form during the opening stages of the 2021-22 season.
In fact, according to the latest reports, so brilliant has the former Atletico Madrid star been that the Red Devils’ management is planning to open contract discussions.
That’s according to a fresh report from Ekrem Konur, who has stated the club are preparing to offer the shot-stopper a new deal.
Although David has just 18-months left on his current deal, the Premier League giants do retain an option to activate a one-year extension.
Therefore, should United opt to keep hold of him until 2024, David would then be 34-years-old so it does seem strange that they’d be considering renewing his contract now.
Nevertheless, should these recent reports be anything to go by – a fresh deal could be on the horizon for him, who, prior to the recent arrival of living legend Cristiano Ronaldo, was United’s highest earner, picking up just shy of £20 million per year.
