Erik ten Hag argues one Man Utd star was real ‘threat all through’ Burnley match, it’s his boldest claim to date

One Manchester United player was a “threat all through” Saturday’s Premier League game against Burnley at Old Trafford, according to Erik ten Hag’s audacious claims.

Despite leading late in the second half due to Antony, Manchester United lost their Premier League match at home this past weekend.

After Sander Berge made a careless pass and the United star raced through the center with the ball, Antony seized the opportunity.

Sander Berge applied pressure on the 24-year-old winger before Antony was able to shoot low with his left foot into the lower right corner of the net.

But Antony’s greatest attempt went in vain, as United lost their 1-0 lead due to a careless challenge by Andre Onana in his own box.

Zeki Amdouni scored from the subsequent penalty kick after Burnley was granted one after Andre Onana was judged to have fouled.

After giving up crucial points in recent weeks, United is now out of the top-four competition and Erik ten Hag’s team will not be participating in the Champions League the following season.

With four league games left, the Red Devils are in sixth position, and Ten Hag’s long-term future is uncertain due to a disappointing season.

Ten Hag honors the Man Utd player
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his dissatisfaction at his team’s failure to hold a 1-0 lead at Old Trafford in remarks made during the team’s Saturday encounter against Burnley.

The 54-year-old Dutchman lavished Antony with praise for his entire effort against Burnley, despite his unhappiness with the outcome.

After going without a goal in his previous 26 league games, Antony finally found the back of the net this season in the Premier League.

Since joining United from Ajax in 2022, the player has faced tremendous criticism, despite the Red Devils having to pay a substantial £81.3 million signing bonus.

Ten Hag, the United manager, has continued to have trust in Antony despite his struggles with consistency in the final third and harsh criticism.

Even though Antony may have scored against Burnley, his whole Old Trafford performance was lackluster at times, frustrating supporters with his play.

Ten Hag stated, “He was a threat all through,” according to the official Manchester United website.

“It wasn’t shocking that he scored as he had more opportunities to score goals before that.

“Three or four times, with his dashes and deft box maneuvers. He was present, and his performance today impressed us.

Ten Hag on Europe and Man Utd
United may still play football in the Europa League or Europa Conference League even though Champions League play is no longer an option.

Ten Hag, though, wouldn’t even consider the possibility that United wouldn’t make it to European competition for the upcoming year.

“I never provide bad scenarios,” he declared.

“There are two possibilities for us: the FA Cup final and the Premier League match.

“The truth is that we are too far behind to finish in fourth place. Giving up penalties—quite controversial—against Chelsea, Liverpool, and now today equals seven points.

“It’s excessive, particularly given the time of year.”
