Thomas Tuchel, a former manager of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, is said to be the front-runner to take over as Manchester United’s next manager.
Given United’s recent string of dismal performances and outcomes, Erik ten Hag is currently under a lot of pressure.
Across all competitions, the Red Devils have lost their last five games. With just eight points from their first seven Premier League games, the team was in 14th place after Sunday’s goalless draw with Aston Villa.
For the first time since the team’s 3-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool last month, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Villa Park to witness the team live.
I find it hard to accept the new reality.
Technical director Jason Wilcox, sporting director Dan Ashworth, CEO Omar Berrada, and his right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford were with him.
It is believed that Ten Hag’s future will be one of the primary topics of an executive meeting scheduled for Tuesday in London, which Joel Glazer will also attend.
According to an article published by The Peoples Person, there is a “growing feeling” that the Dutchman may be fired, even though he has not been told that his job is in imminent danger.
To date, several alternatives have been suggested, including Thomas Frank, Graham Potter, Tuchel, and Gareth Southgate.
It was disclosed earlier on Monday that United is “lining up” a move for Tuchel in case they decide to break ways with the troubled Ten Hag.
Tuchel is at the top of United’s list of possible Ten Hag replacements, according to an update on the matter provided by David McDonnell of The Mirror.
“Thomas Tuchel is the new favorite to succeed Erik ten Hag, and his fate will be decided on Tuesday when Manchester United’s hierarchy meets for crucial talks,” McDonnell said.
“United and Tuchel had discussions in the summer, but the hierarchy was unable to come to an agreement, so they chose to remain with Ten Hag and extend his contract by one year.”
“Despite the breakdown of talks over the summer, Tuchel is still a free agent and is reportedly open to returning to management at Old Trafford.”
Additionally, according to McDonnell, assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy “would be likely” to assume interim leadership in the event that Ten Hag is fired.
