“It’s possible” – Ben Jacobs says Man Utd could make “extraordinary signing” alongside Ugarte

Before the summer transfer window closes, Manchester United is reportedly considering a move for former Chelsea player and free agent Marcos Alonso. Journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, has revealed that a deal for the Spaniard has been “discussed internally” at Old Trafford.

After his contract was extended, Erik ten Hag had problems up front and at center back, which he resolved by bringing in Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthjis de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui. However, help at left back would be helpful in addition to a new central midfielder.

Man United’s need for a new left-back has heightened in light of Shaw’s recent injury.

Because of Luke Shaw’s poor availability record and Tyrell Malacia’s extended absence from the team during the previous season, the Premier League’s biggest players were able to play more than they had originally planned, including Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans.

And although rookie Harry Amass performed well in the preseason, Manchester United is reportedly talking to free agent Alonso—who has played for Chelsea more than 150 times in the highest level of England—about a contract because of his inexperience, according to The Athletic.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, and Dan Ashworth, the sporting director, are related. Madrid-born Alonso, 33, was freed from his Barcelona contract this summer, which meant that a deal for the talented player—dubbed a “extraordinary signing” by former Barcelona president Xavi—would be both financially feasible and relatively easy to complete.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, there is a verified hole at left-back. They understand that, following Shaw’s most recent injury, Manchester United, and Ten Hag in particular, are eager to strengthen that position.

In response to a question concerning Manchester United’s connections to the former Premier League champion, Jacobs said that a move to M16 is a possibility, though it hasn’t been pursued as of yet.

The journalist insisted that a move is “something they’ll look into,” adding that the left-back would be keen in starting a conversation with his possible suitors before the summer trading period shuts for business. In an exclusive interview with GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs stated:

Although nothing is official at this time, it is true that Alonso has been discussed internally at Manchester United, and from the player’s perspective, it has been made apparent that he would be open to speaking with the club.

But at this point, it’s nothing more than that. However, Manchester United will investigate if they can bring in some additional financial depth.

Youssouf Fofana, a star player for AS Monaco and France, has been identified as a possible addition to strengthen their engine room this summer. Some reports even suggest that the Paris-born ace, who has made 175 appearances for his current employers, was keen on moving to Old Trafford amid competition for his signature.

Ten Hag and his crew are interested in Fofana since the 25-year-old was one of Ligue 1’s star players last season with four goals and four assists apiece in 35 appearances across all competitions. Nevertheless, Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports recently informed GIVEMESPORT that AC Milan, a Serie A team, is now leading the competition to sign the Frenchman.
