Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong as a replacement for outgoing midfielder Paul Pogba.
The Old Trafford side are yet to agree on a new contract with the 28-year-old Frenchman who will see his existing deal expire next year, meaning he is at risk of leaving the Theatre of Dreams for free.
De Jong, meantime, has recently been linked with a transfer away from Camp Nou, with the Catalan outfit believed to have placed a €90 million (£75 million) price tag on the star, which has alerted a host of Premier League clubs.
According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are prepared to join rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to land the 24-year-old Dutchman, who could be available in the January transfer market.
It has previously been claimed that the Citizens have made an official €90 million (£75 million) bid for De Jong, while the Reds will think about stepping up their interest in the player in the winter window, as the side continue their search to replace Frenkie’s fellow countryman Georginio Wijnaldum.
De Jong, who is tied down at Blaugrana until June 2026, has made 107 appearances in all competitions for the Catalan giants since joining from Ajax in the summer of 2019, scoring nine goals and grabbing 14 assists.
