Manchester United’s search for a defensive midfielder continues and lately, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria is in the focus.
According to Sport Italia journalist, Gianluigi Longari, Man Utd have made contact to sign the Switzerland international, who will be out of contract next summer.
According to Blick, the 24-year-old’s current market value is at around 40 million euros (£33.5million) and any interested party would have to agree a signing on bonus of 10-12 million euros to hire his services on a free transfer.
As per the Swiss News source, Monchengladbach cannot afford to offer him a bumper pay rise to keep him at the club and they have Neuhaus to replace him. Therefore, it is realistic that the German Bundesliga side would opt to sell him in the winter transfer window to at least get a fee.
Solskjaer has not been able to strengthen the midfield department for the Red Devils and at the moment, his only specialist defensive midfielder is veteran Nemanja Matic, who rarely starts and is no longer in his prime.
Therefore, a solid play breaker must be lured as early as January to improve the defensive situation. Zakaria is a proven quality holding midfield player.
The 40-capped international featured in 5 World Cup qualification fixtures and helped his team keep 4 clean sheets (conceded just one goal) to earn automatic qualification for the finals ahead of European Champions Italy.
In your opinion, should Man Utd move to sign Denis Zakaria in January?
