Manchester United have been linked with Ousmane Dembele in the past few transfer windows and as we head close to the winter window, the rumors are once again in the lime light.
According to Mundo Deportivo (news image provided below), Barcelona’s new manager, Xavi, is trying hard to convince the player and his agent to extend the attacker’s stay at the Nou Camp. His current deal will expire in June next year.
The Catalan news source have mentioned that the Spanish giants are finding it hard to convince the player’s representative, who has been consistently delaying the decision.
It is stated that the major dilemma for Barca is the interest from Manchester United. The media outlet claim that Man Utd have offered Dembele lucrative terms (salary) and promised him and his manager a transfer bonus in order to finally bring the player to Old Trafford on a bosman.
At the moment, the former Borussia Dortmund playmaker is earning a salary of around £215,000 a week (The Sun).
Having spent a lot of cash on Sancho, it would be highly surprising if the Red Devils move in to sign Dembele, who has mainly been injury prone since joining Barcelona in 2017.
This season, he missed the start of the campaigns due to a knee issue, then returned to fitness earlier this month to feature against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League. However, after that game, he suffered a hamstring injury and then returned to make his second appearance of the campaign (this week) vs Benfica in the UCL.
Keeping in view that Man Utd have bigger problems in the midfield and the backline as compared to the offense, there is no need to sign Ousmane Dembele. What do you think?
