According to reports, Manchester United is evaluating two “cheaper options” in place of Manuel Ugarte, who is expected to cost “crazy money.”
Man Utd has already spent around £90 million this summer to get Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee. They now have agreements in place to recruit Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, the duo from Bayern Munich.
This “double deal” between Bayern Munich and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his hiring team is expected to be finalized in the next several days.
De Ligt and Mazraoui’s additions come at a perfect moment, as Erik ten Hag’s team was shorthanded for Saturday’s Community Shield loss to Man City due to penalties.
Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, has revealed the financial terms of Manchester United’s agreement with Bayern Munich.
With De Ligt joining the Red Devils for €45 million plus further €5 million, we can now confirm this. According to sources close to Bayern, Mazraoui will receive €15 million in addition to €5 million in add-ons, and the structure of the deal is still fairly favorable for United. Romano stated as much in his Daily Briefing column.

“Both players are scheduled to sign five-year contracts and will now travel to join United.” In De Ligt’s instance, this deal was really made with his agent Rafaela Pimenta back in June, so he has been patiently waiting for United and hasn’t engaged in any talks with other teams.
“Mazraoui has also been patiently waiting since July, while United has sometimes looked at Denzel Dumfries and Vanderson as right-back alternatives. Nevertheless, Mazraoui seems like a solid choice because he can play both left and right back and is well acquainted with Erik ten Hag from their time together at Ajax.
“Well, Bayern and United have now completed a double deal, and Bayern is now anticipated to sign a new center-back.”
Now, the focus of the Red Devils will be on acquiring a new center-midfield player.
Ugarte is their “top target,” but because PSG is allegedly refusing to drop their asking price, they have been forced to explore elsewhere.
Rather, Sander Berge of Burnley is revealed by Romano to be “one to watch” as he is among the “Plan B options behind Ugarte.”
“United is still actively seeking a new midfield player. They have spoken with Sander Berge’s representatives and explored other possibilities, but Manuel Ugarte is still their top choice,” Romano said.
“PSG will have to lower their asking price since United won’t pay absurd sums of money. Alternatively, they could sell one player in that position—Scott McTominay or Casemiro, for example—but financing the transaction will probably need a sale.
“However, United may also choose for a less expensive midfield player, so after speaking with his agency, Berge might be someone to keep an eye on. Meanwhile, Sofyan Amrabat is still on their radar even though they originally opted not to purchase him permanently from Fiorentina after his loan from the previous season ended.
“There are some Plan B options behind Ugarte, as Ten Hag still appreciates Amrabat, but let’s wait and see what happens with PSG on that one.”
