According to journalist Christoph Michel, Manchester United is keeping an eye on Oscar Gloukh, a highly-regarded midfielder for RB Salzburg, who may end up replacing captain Bruno Fernandes in the long run.

The 20-year-old playmaker is apparently being considered by the Red Devils as a replacement for the seasoned Fernandes, who turned 30 earlier this month and recently signed a contract deal that will keep him with the team through 2027 with an additional year’s option.

Gloukh has been a standout performer for the Austrian giants lately, and it appears that the Red Devils are taking notice of his efforts and may decide to consider the Israeli international as a long-term replacement for their skipper.

Mason Mount’s signing as Fernandes’ backup hasn’t quite worked out, so the Red Devils are now considering Gloukh as a backup and potential successor for their dependable captain.

The Portugal international was linked to several European clubs throughout the summer, which is why Man United decided to negotiate new terms for Fernandes.

The 30-year-old midfield player, who is currently beginning his fifth full season at Old Trafford, was reportedly attracting interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

In January 2023, the 20-year-old, who rose through the youth ranks of Maccabi Tel Aviv, inked a four-and-a-half-year contract with Salzburg.

The Israel international settled into Austria quickly, concluding his first full season with 40 appearances across all competitions, nine goals, and 18 assists, including three goal contributions in the Champions League.

Considering his youth, the highly regarded attacking midfield player has performed amazingly well for the Austrian team and has already demonstrated that he has the technical skills necessary to compete in the Premier League.
