Ten Hag has guided United to their worst-ever Premier League season opening, as his team is currently in 14th place after just accumulating eight of a possible 21 points. The authorities at Old Trafford have already begun looking for Ten Hag’s replacement due to the team’s dismal start. Thomas Tuchel, the former manager of Bayern Munich and Chelsea, was reportedly their top target; however, all hopes of signing the German were dashed on Wednesday when he was named the new England manager.
According to TEAMtalk, Graham Potter, a former Chelsea manager, is the front-runner to succeed Ten Hag if he isn’t able to salvage his bacon this weekend.

Ten Hag begs the board to support De Jong.
According to rumors from Spain, Ten Hag feels he can salvage his United career and the team’s season in January if he can get beyond Brentford. According to Sport.es, Ten Hag has insisted that United buy FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong following the New Year, seeing the 54-year-old manager as the player who can finally bring his constantly evolving team together.
Frenkie De Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona
The Spanish tabloid claims that Ten Hag’s “dream” signing is 27-year-old De Jong. Between 2017 and 2019, the two were coworkers at Ajax, where the midfielder was the standout member of the youthful squad that won the Eredivisie and advanced to the Champions League semifinals for the first time since the 1996–1997 campaign.
At the end of the 2018–19 season, De Jong—dubbed a “extraordinary footballer” by Xavi—left Ajax for Barcelona. Since Ten Hag assumed leadership in 2022, there have been constant rumors that De Jong would join United.
Ten Hag was fixated on his former Ajax teammates.
Ten Hag has developed a habit of purchasing his former Ajax players ever since arriving to United. He handled Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez, and Antony at the Johan Cruyff Arena, and in just two years, he has signed no fewer than five of those players.
They have already cost United a staggering £222 million in total, but none of them have yet to live up to the high transfer prices they incurred or the reason Ten Hag chose to bring them to Old Trafford in the first place.

Ten Hag has also signed six players with previous experience in the Dutch top flight: Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, Wout Weghorst, and Joshua Zirkzee. Ten Hag responded to claims made by United supporters in August of last year that he is fixated on signing his former Ajax players and former Eredivisie stars.
“Club decisions make this. He stated, “It’s not just my choice with any of them,” as reported by Sunday World. “The scouting, recruiting, technical, and sporting directors always support it or even bring it up.”
